QP’s offshore operations marks 50 years of success with ‘offshore day 2012’ celebration in Halul Island

Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum, QP’s Offshore Operations yesterday celebrated “Offshore Day 2012” in Halul Island to showcase its 50 years of success in operating, producing and exporting hydrocarbons from Qatar’s offshore fields.

“Offshore Day” is organized periodically by QP to mark and highlight the achievements of Offshore Operations in its oil & gas production and export activities. Earlier events were held in 1996, 2002, 2005 and 2008 in Halul Island, one of QP’s offshore locations. The event provides an opportunity to introduce the range of offshore operations activities to the senior management of other QP departments and the corporation’s joint venture partners.

“Offshore Day 2012” was attended by HE Dr. Al-Sada as the chief guest along with a number of QP directors and the top management of QP’s joint venture partners, namely, TOTAL E&P Qatar (TEPQ), Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Limited (OPQL), and Qatar Petroleum Development Company (QPD).

In his speech and welcome address, Mr. Mubarak A. Al-Hajri, Operations Manager-Offshore Fields, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to HE Dr. Al-Sada and to Mr. Said Al-Mohannadi, Director Operations, for their continued support and guidance. He also stated that Offshore Operations has consistently achieved its production and export targets without any major safety incident.

Offshore Day 2012 Activities

Following the arrival of the chief guest and other dignitaries on the morning of the event, a safety briefing was first given to all the participants. This was followed by the recital of the holy Koran, and Mr. Al-Hajri then welcomed HE Dr. Al-Sada and the other distinguished guests. A documentary film on the various facets of Offshore Operations’ history, activities and achievements was next shown to the audience.

HE the Minister then distributed recognition awards for excellent safety and operational performance to deserving QP and contractor employees.

Afterwards, HE Dr. Al-Sada presided over the opening of an exhibition that showcased the operations and activities of the various departments of QP’s Offshore Operations. HE the Minister then inaugurated the recently completed Halul enhancement and upgrading projects, and he also laid the foundation stone for two new projects on the island.

The projects that were inaugurated were the new Crude Oil Import and Export Facilities (New EVSD Pumps), Halul Harbor Upgrades, new Fire Station Buildings, new Central Maintenance Workshops and new Al Maha Clubhouse in Halul. During the inauguration of the Crude Oil Import and Export Facilities Upgrade Project, Tanker No. 5393 was loaded with Qatar Marine Crude for export under the command of HE the Minister.

One of the foundation stone laying ceremonies, on the other hand, was held for the Halul Subsea Power Cable, a project will supply Halul with 200 MW of electrical power from Ras Laffan through two subsea cables. It is expected to be completed in mid-2016. The other foundation stone laying ceremony was for the Integrated Facilities Accommodation Building. This project includes a 600-bed accommodation building, among other facilities, and it is expected to be completed in mid-2015.
