PSA releases new report on employee participation

Tuesday, Nov 17, 2009

In September, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) organised an open conference on employee participation in the petroleum activities. Now a report has been released which summarises the presentations and discussions held during the conference, and discusses potential measures for developing employee participation in the petroleum industry.

The title of the conference was ”Power or impotence?”. Participants included representatives of both employee and employer organisations, as well as speakers from research and teaching communities.

The background for the conference was the PSA's observations, through its contact with the industry, of somewhat deficient facilitation of employee participation, in addition to substantial differences in the way employee participation is carried out. Employees, employers and the authorities all devote considerable resources to issues relating to both facilitation of employee participation as well as the actual contents of the participation process.

The purpose of the conference was to learn more about how employers and employees experience the process of employee participation, as well as to discuss how employee participation can be facilitated in the future.

Researchers from SINTEF Technology Management assisted in conducting the conference and preparing the new report.
