Pars Oil & Gas Company announces Iran attains self-sufficiency in building offshore structures

Friday, Dec 28, 2012

TEHRAN (FNA)- Engineers and experts of the Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) have attained self-sufficiency in constructing and erecting offshore structures, IOEC Managing-Director Ali Taheri Motlaq said Wednesday.

"We have attained self-sufficiency in erecting structures weighing up to 5,000 tons together with their equipment," Taheri Motlaq said, addressing the 14th Marine Industries seminar in Tehran on Wednesday.

Elaborating on the importance of the structures, he noted that offshore structures are needed for the development of most phases of the South Pars Energy Zone in Iran's Southern waters in the Persian Gulf.

The South Pars gas field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, i.e. the North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.

The South Pars gas field holds 8 percent of total gas reserves of the world and half of the country's proven gas reserves as well as is the host of the most important industrial complexes of the country and the most important part of oil industry's value chain.
