Pars Oil & Gas Company announces first Iranian made smart pig launched

Iranian experts succeeded to design and manufacture smart pigs for the first time in the country.

Research and technology director at National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Saeed Pakseresht made the remarks adding the device was manufactured in cooperation with Tehran University in a three year period.

Pakseresht told Shana that technical inspection, gathering information about the internal situation of the pipeline, finding gas leakage and corrosion are among the capabilities of the smart pig was made by Iranian experts.

He continued that the device had been installed on a 110 kilometers, 30 inches gas pipeline between Qom and Arak cities.

The official said the United States, Russia and Germany were among the few counties having the technology adding the success of manufacturing the device at home has reduced the high cost of importing smart pigs.

With 34 thousand kilometers of high-pressure gas pipeline, the country uses smart pigs to inspect internal conditions of the pipeline network periodically.
