RBG completes significant ‘first’ for Chevron

RBG, the leading provider of fabric maintenance and construction support to the global energy industry, has completed a contract worth approximately £400,000 for Acergy, for the provision of Rigid-Hulled Inflation Boat (‘RHIB’) dive services and project support.

RBG was commissioned to support the removal and replacement of one of the fairleads from the Chevron Upstream Europe (‘Chevron’) owned Captain FPSO. Deployed from the Acergy-chartered vessel, Far Saga, combined activities included diving, installation of subsea rigging and ROV services. 

Speaking on the success of the project, Paul Jamieson, subsea engineering coordinator for Chevron, said: “I am immensely proud and thankful for what the team has achieved.  Many thought it couldn’t be done following initial anomaly identification during ROV inspection back in April 2009; however the team managed to engineer, plan and execute multiple vessel-based ROV, diving and FPSO orientated campaigns to get us to this point.  All activities have been completed injury free and without impact to production.”

Calum Buchanan, director of marine and subsea services for RBG, said: “We are delighted to have been involved in this project, especially as it is the first of its kind on the Captain FPSO.  Our involvement presents an ideal opportunity for RBG to demonstrate its specialist dive capability and our success is testament to the efforts of the whole team involved.”
