Audit of Statoil's Johan Sverdrup
Friday, Nov 24, 2017
On 7 November 2017, we carried out an audit of Statoil and its planned adoption of insulation requirements for avoiding corrosion under insulation (CUI) in Johan Sverdrup phase 2.

The objective of the audit was to investigate compliance with the regulatory requirements for insulation and potential future problems with corrosion under insulation.

During the audit, we made observations relating to:

  • Holistic thinking in management of the work
  • Choice of materials
  • Need for insulation
  • Standardisation
  • Framework agreement with insulation supplier
  • Competence and continuity
The project is in the planning (FEED) phase and a decision on implementing and submitting a plan for development and operation (PDO) is scheduled for Autumn 2018.

The phase 2 development is a planned necessary continuation of Johan Sverdrup phase 1 and consists of a processing facility and major modifications to the riser facility that include a development for power from onshore. Production start for phase 2 is scheduled for 2022. The field has an estimated lifetime of 50 years.
