Friday, Dec 07, 2012

Lundin Norway AS (Lundin) has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 16/1-17 with the Transocean Winner mobile drilling facility.

Well 16/1-17 is located in the southern part of the North Sea, in a prospect east of the Edvard Grieg field in production licence PL 338, operated by Lundin. The other licensees in the production licence are Wintershall Norge AS and RWE Dea Norge AS.

The drilling site is located approx. 200 km west of Stavanger, and the well will have the following geographical coordinates:

N 58o 50' 18.16"
E 02o 19' 23.41"

Water depth at the site is 109 metres.

At the earliest, drilling will start at the end of December 2012, and the planned duration is 49 days. The consent also includes a potential sidetrack and possible production testing. The overall duration is then expected to be 94 days. Following drilling and potential production testing, the well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.

The drilling will be carried out using the Transocean Winner semi-submersible drilling facility (pictured).

Transocean Winner is a type GVA 4000 facility, built at Götaverken in Gothenburg in 1983. It is owned by Transocean Offshore Ltd NUF and operated from Transocean’s main office in Stavanger. The facility is registered on the Marshall Islands and is classified by DnV.

Transocean Winner received the PSA’s Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in August 2006.
