Gas Turbine production market growth, as Europe's demand for gas powered generation increases
Wednesday, Dec 14, 2011

LONDON, December 13, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- The European energy sector has seen some dramatic changes in policy, with the shift from coal and nuclear, to gas and other low carbon fuels. OPRA Turbines, one of the world's leading manufacturers in advanced gas turbine technology, also the proud sponsors of the Gas-to-Power Europe Forum taking place on 23-25 January, 2012 in Berlin, have found that demand for their products has increased significantly over the past 12 months.

Fredrik Mowill, CEO of the company, was recently interviewed and said that with the recent shift in policy in Germany to abolish its nuclear power programme and other worldwide events, there has been a dramatic increase in sales for gas turbines. In fact, over the past couple of weeks OPRA has sold two new turbines to the German market and they are in the process of supplying a new turbine to a Romanian client.

However, like the UK and the rest of Europe he says, many countries are coming across "stumbling blocks" for a low carbon future because of financing.

He also mentioned that, in his opinion, while gas will no doubt be the primary source of power generation over the next 20 years, there will be a mix of resources such as nuclear and renewables.

The Gas-to-Power Europe Forum will be focusing on Europe's plans for a gas powered future, highlighting upon the technical and strategic challenges ahead, and will give participants the latest updates on current projects.

Industry leading speakers include: Dr. Susanne Nies, EURELECTRIC; Anders Eldrup, DONG Energy; Dr. Gerald Linke, E.ON Ruhrgas and Thomas Birr, RWE Group AG.
