Det norske announces world record at Trolla

Wednesday, Dec 02, 2009

As a first on the Norwegian continental shelf, a wellhead was cut and removed from a vessel instead of a rig. In addition to being first out on the Norwegian shelf with this solution, we set a world record with 270 meters of water depth.

The previous record for this technology was at 141 meters.

After trouble freeing the 9 5/8 "casing, the well was abandoned 3 October, after it was secured in accordance with
the PSA regulations.

Norse Cutting & Abandonment Norway AS (NCA) was contacted to plan for cutting and retrieving the wellhead to a vessel.

NCA's equipment was installed on the anchor handling vessel Olympic Zeus (image on the left, click for bigger version) in Stavanger 17 and 18 November, and demobilized the same place on 23 November after a highly successful cutting- and lifting job.

The entire operation was conducted without any HSE remarks.
