Champion Technologies rewarded for commitment to employee development

Friday, Nov 09, 2012

Global specialist oilfield production chemicals company, Champion Technologies, was named top for people development at last night’s Oil & Gas UK awards.

The awards, which took place on 8 November 2012 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, are a key event in the industry calendar and recognise talent and excellence throughout the UK, for both individual and company performance.

The People Development award recognises outstanding commitment, innovation and investment made by an organisation in the oil and gas sector, which has seen high morale, employee progression and a skilled, motivated workforce as a result of this.

Stuart Mathieson, Europe division manager at Champion Technologies, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised by the industry and our peers at this prestigious ceremony. It is hugely positive for us, particularly given the tough competition in the category.

“This is testament to the value that we place on our employees and marks the efforts our management, HR and training teams have made to ensure that we have a leading people development strategy that translates across each of our global bases.”

Champion Technologies was nominated as a result of fostering a culture of motivation and development in the workplace, including the development of several performance management systems which monitor progress, develop skills and encourage career advancement.

Last year, Champion invested around 4% of company turnover into its workforce to support skills development and talent retention, equating to around £5000 per employee for that period and a total investment of £800,000.

Stuart continued: “Our talented staff are core to our business success, and because of this we continually strive to offer them a working environment where they are given opportunities to develop and feel truly valued.

“Listening to our employees has always been extremely important to us and our employee survey was a major milestone. The feedback has really helped to shape our people development strategy and this has been a huge success - our employees feel encouraged, have opportunities to progress and intent to stay with Champion is high.

“This approach is working not only in our UK bases but also globally, and is translated to every individual from senior management to technical staff. We are excited to continue engaging with our employees to see them reach their highest potential.”

Champion Technologies is a global speciality chemical company with 3,100+ employees. Operating in over 100 locations across more than 30 countries, it delivers innovative and engineered programs for upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas markets. Champion’s integrated offering mixes sustainable chemistry, innovative technology and high-quality service.
